Jax Swartz
At the wee age of 5, Jacqueline “JAX” Mariash Swartz tied up her first set of running shoes and ran the Graland Gallop only to find an age group winning medal at the end. A new passion for running would begin a lifetime of athletic accomplishments. Two months later, she was running her first Bolder Boulder and taking home the age group win for 8 and under. From there, Jax ran all through high school with a focus on cross country, and track in the distances of 400m, 800m and the mile. Upon graduating, she decided to enter her first triathlon ever without a single swim lesson. After 1.5 months of training and learning to swim, she landed an age group win and 7th overall in her first race ever. 3 months later, this lead to a win at National Championships and a new multi-sport passion. Q&A With Max Muscle MM: What does your training mean to you? Training to me is all about being consistent and trying as hard as I can to make consistent progress to new milestones in my athletic career. MM: What are some of the obstacles you've had to overcome in balancing training/life/etc? The biggest ones can be juggling everything at once with work, marriage, training and so on. You really have to be a stellar "Scholar" at time management :) And you have to have the passion and commitment each and every day to really keep your goals at the forefront to make a difference out there. MM: What are your goals for 2011? For 2011 I have made a commitment to solely work on my running career. My biggest race on deck is the Chicago Half Marathon on 9/11/11 where I hope to have the biggest PR to date. I can only do this by joining a great team (Boulder Express), and having a stellar coach (Lee Troop), and lastly having really smart nutrition choices with the help of Max Muscle Sports Nutrition. MM: What role has nutrition played, not only in trianing but in your daily life as a Marketing Professional? Plain and simple, you are what you eat. To achieve my goals in running it is crucial that I am keeping an eye on my nutrition day in and day out. Timing is crucial in having an efficient system so snacks must be readily available. It is also important for me to have some type of nutrition in my system prior to early morning runs, and MM has helped me to achieve a successful combo that can help me to be fueled up at every step of the way through my workout and day. MM: What's your favorite MM product? I have two :) BCAA essential amino acids twice a day and enduromax. They have literally changed my experience running daily and in long runs. |
Jax was recognized as the fastest long course female duathlete in the nation after coming home with the fastest time at 2008’s long course world championships for Team USA. She earned the Bronze medal in her division as well. She also walked away with two National Champion titles in both long and short course duathlon in her division. In 2008, Jacqueline was also an elite triathlete with remarkable finishes at the highly recognized Boulder Sprint and Boulder Peak triathlon as well as earning an Ironman 70.3 World Championship slot by placing 9th overall open at the Buffalo Springs Half Ironman this year. She went on to place 3rd overall open in the Longhorn 70.3. In addition, Jacqueline won the inaugural Boulder Tri Babes Sprint Triathlon in September of 2008 with a time of 1:03.31. To wrap up the year, she was honored with double All American in both Triathlon and Duathlon for her division. This year, after some time off, she enters the running circuit again where she hopes to be a contender and make her transition from an elite triahlete and duathlete to a half marathon, 10k and 5k runner. Jax told us, “I have a lot to learn and it is a whole new terrain for me, yet I am really excited. This is what I did as a kid so I am sort of going round circle.” I am thrilled as well to work with a highly recognized running coach and be a part of the Boulder Express Running Team. Lee Troop is a 4 time Olympian in the marathon distance and a highly recognized coach all across the World. To ease into the transition, Jax will run in 5k’s and 10k’s to build the speed back again and by September, she will try to have her best half marathon PR yet to date at the Chicago Half Marathon. “This transition to running is to keep it all alive and to see what I’ve got. I never fully tapped into my full running potential so I am excited to see how far I can take it.” Jax’s only goal this year is to build a platform for her running that she can start to land PR after PR on for years to come and hopes to be a top contender in each race. Her focus on smart training, proper nutrition and persistence will be a key in getting her to achieve her dreams as an elite runner. In addition to Jacqueline’s own athletic achievements it is a passion of hers to help others achieve their goals and aspirations in the sport and to always give back. Jacqueline loves helping others to get fit and to always help in the community to grow the sport. It is also a huge passion of hers to contribute back to LIVESTRONG each year through her athletics. Keep up with Jacqueline as she continues on her journey on her blog and check out her tumblr feed where she posts a photo a day.
